About This Course

History of accounting dates to the Mesopotamian civilization and the earliest records on accounting can be traced to the Roman Empire. Accounting is the language of business and financial statements are its output. It translates the complex transaction information into concise records which can be easily understood by the reader of these records. Understanding and interpreting the financial statements are imperative for any business manager as it has information on all aspects of the business.

The Course is intended to train the participants with the fundamental understanding of the financial accounting and the management accounting. The course will familiarize the students to financial statements namely the Balance Sheet, Income Statement and Cashflow Statement, it will impart knowledge on analysing these financial statements to draw conclusion about the health of the company and performance and the course will acquaint the students to various costs and analysis of costs for decision making.

By the end of the course the participants should be in a position to read, analyse and draw meaningful conclusions on the company using various financial statements for the purpose of decision making and they will also be able to understand the costs, analyse the costs and take decisions based on the cost information for achieving the organizational objectives.

Dr. Punam Prasad, Course Faculty

Prof. Punam Prasad has completed her Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ranchi in Finance and Accounting Area. She has completed B.Com(Hons) from Delhi University and is C-DAC certified in Advanced Diploma in Computer Applications.

She is currently working as an Assistant Professor at XIMB Bhubaneswar, Odisha. Prior to XIMB, she has worked at TAPMI as an Assistant Professor for three and a half years and was also the Chairperson of Student Activities. She has a rich corporate experience of nine years as a Product Manager (Zonal Head) in financial services industry prior to being a part of academia. Prof. Punam has worked in corporates like ICICI Securities Ltd., Religare Securities Ltd. and IBM India Pvt. Ltd.

Her teaching expertise lies in Security Valuation, Investment Banking, Project Finance, Financial Institutions and Markets, Financial Accounting and Management Accounting. Her Key research areas are in Working Capital Management, ESG and Corporate Governance.
