APPLIED STATISTICS FOR DECISION MAKING

This course is a foundation to statistics designed for full time business school executive programme participants. In the rapidly changing business environment with abundance of data, it is imperative to have an appreciation of data, its presentation, analysis, and interpretation. This course aims at imparting familiarity and relevant skills so that you can make better of use of data in decision making. The course also introduces various aspects of business statistics to the participants. The course encompasses conceptualization and interpretation of problems, analysis and inference tools applicable for various managerial situations. Participants will be able to understand concepts of uncertainty in the form of probability distributions. This course also deals with basic tools and techniques of statistical inference like sampling, hypothesis testing, and regression analysis.

Soumyajyoti Datta is an assistant professor in Operations Management and Decision Sciences at Xavier Institute of Management, XIM University Bhubaneswar. He has been associated with Xavier Institute of Management since 2019. He is a graduate in electronics and instrumentation engineering from West Bengal University of Technology and has completed his Doctor of Philosophy form Indian Institute of Management Indore in Operations Management & Quantitative Techniques. He has also done Executive Programme in Business Analytics and Business Intelligence from Indian Institute of Management Ranchi. He has a corporate experience of two and a half years in the information technology industry and research experience of five years. His articles have been accepted by several international conferences and journals of repute such as Operations Management Education Review. He has won several recognitions including global awards, and scholarships for his academic endeavours. He has published business cases in Ivey Case Publishing, indexed by Harvard Business Publishing. He has also worked on numerous consulting assignments concerning Public Distribution System in Madhya Pradesh and Indian Army. His current research interests include healthcare operations management, humanitarian supply chain, service operations, sustainability, business decision making, data mining and soft computing
